Description

In the late eighteenth century and before, there was a family of guitar builders under the name Voboam. Almost every instrument was richly decorated and obviously made to order for wealthy discerning customers. This guitar is based on the guitars of Alexander Voboam, who was active in Paris around 1684.

Our Voboam guitar is based on the instrument depicted in Jan Vermeer’s famous painting “De gitaarspeelster”, which unequivocally shows a Voboam guitar, and surviving examples found in the Ashmolean Museum. The back is made of alternate ribs of walnut and lacewood. The soundboard is from Sitka spruce with walnut banding. Supplied with a semi-rigid padded bag.
