Description
The 1978 Fender Telecaster Custom presents a solid-body built from natural-finished alder or ash, commonly featuring a high-gloss polyurethane coat that showcases the wood’s natural grain. The finish is a timeless “Natural” tone emblematic of late 1970s CBS-era Fenders. Its body carries the prominent elongated pickguard and the additional upper-bout three-way toggle switch typical of the Custom variant.
The neck is bolt-on, crafted from maple with either a maple or rosewood fretboard, measuring 21 frets along a traditional 25.5-inch scale. The neck profile varies between a chunky “U” and a slightly slimmer “Deep C,” adding a comfortable vintage feel, and is usually paired with a nut width around 1 5/8″ to 1 11/16″.
Electrically, the 1978 Telecaster Custom is equipped with a Fender Wide-Range humbucker in the neck position and a standard single-coil in the bridge, controlled through dual volume and tone knobs plus the toggle switch mounted on the pickguard. This setup provides a blend of warm, humbucking tones and the classic Tele twang.
